SRUC Board member recognised in King’s Birthday Honours

Elma Murray has been awarded a CBE

SRUC Board member Elma Murray has been awarded a CBE in the King's Birthday Honours list.

Elma, who is Deputy Chair of Developing the Young Workforce, Employer’s Forum, received the honour for services to young people in Scotland.

It recognises her voluntary work with the workforce, which liaises with schools to ensure young people can obtain access to work and training, including apprenticeships.

She is also Chair of Young Scot - Scotland’s youth information and citizenship charity - and the Scottish Obesity Alliance.

She has held several other senior positions including as Chief Executive of North Ayrshire Council, Chair of SOLACE (Society of Local Authority Chief Executives), Depute Director of Finance and Head of Change Management at Glasgow City Council and Computer Services Manager at Strathclyde Police.

She was previously awarded an OBE for services to local government, education and the economy in the Queen’s 2018 New Year Honours List, in recognition of her 35-year career.

Elma said: “I am delighted and humbled in equal measure to receive this award which recognises the importance of supporting young people into employment and sustainable destinations, including training and further and higher education.

“The award also recognises the wonderful young people in Scotland who have continually inspired me over the many years that I've had the pleasure of working with them.”

Professor Wayne Powell, Principal and Chief Executive of SRUC, said: “On behalf of everyone at SRUC, I would like to congratulate Elma on her CBE in the King's Birthday Honours list. It is a thoroughly deserved recognition of all her hard work.”
