An SRUC scientist has been honoured for her “outstanding contribution” to the Texel Sheep Society.

Professor Joanne Conington was presented with the award at the society’s 50th Anniversary Celebration Ball, which was held for members and associates who have made “an exceptional contribution” over the years.

She was praised for her dedicated efforts, which included helping the Society to gain high-value grants, enabling them to carry out essential research.

Particularly notable was Prof Conington’s enduring role within the society, going back nearly 25 years. John Yates, the society’s Chief Executive, said: “Jo’s connection to the society goes back to the early 2000s and she has been instrumental over the last 20 years in supporting the society in its research and development work in a number of fields.

“Jo’s vital input has enabled the Society to access significant grants from Innovate UK among others, allowing it to undertake novel and often groundbreaking research work in fields such as health traits and carcass and meat quality traits.

“Jo has, throughout the last 20 years, made an outstanding contribution to the Texel Sheep Society through her research work and has supported the Society’s aims in helping further develop its aspirations in the areas of performance recording and genomic evaluations.”

"I am very proud to have impacted on the Texel Society and am deeply honoured to have been recognised with this very special Award," Prof Conington said.
