Interpretation of Neospora caninum serology (ELISA OD %)
Negative: <30%
Positive: >/= 30%
In infected animals the antibody levels fluctuate and infected animals may test negative for antibody at certain times. When a congenitally infected animal is tested pre-breeding it may test negative for antibody. Antibody will usually rise in the second half of the first pregnancy and remain high for the remainder of the pregnancy. The detection of antibody in the blood of an aborting cow should not be taken as diagnostic of abortion due to N. caninum. Foetal examination is the only way to confirm a diagnosis of Neospora associated abortion.
