I am a human geographer interested in regional development, migration and policy. My former work included working with isolated island communities in Croatia, rural communities in the Mid North region of South Australia and Västerbotten region in the North Sweden. During my PhD I collaborated with the Mid North Knowledge Partnership (extension of the Flinders University Rural and Remote Health SA) in Australia and the Centre for the Rural Medicine (GMC) in Sweden. I spent most of my PhD living in rural communities and utilized different qualitative methods to explore my topic and case study sites. Simultaneously I ran a 5y longitudinal study (2013-2018) looking into the human capital retention rates and migration experiences in rural South Australia and collaborated on the ‘Free Range’ pilot program examining some of the issues affecting the health and well-being of small rural communities in Australia, Sweden and Canada.
