Hi I'm
Prof. Georgios Banos
- Position: Professor
- Location: Central Scotland
-
Expertise:
- Climate, Environment and Wildlife
- Livestock and Fishing
In my research I try to identify genetic factors that make farm animals healthy, resistant to disease and resilient to environmental stressors. The rapidly changing climate poses a severe environmental challenge, and it becomes clear that individual animals have different natural mechanisms for coping. Together with my team we are trying to find exactly what is it that makes some animals more successful than others at that. Then, I am keen to apply research results in breeding programmes that enhance animal health, fitness, welfare, and genetic diversity.
I am also interested in student training. I believe research and teaching go hand in hand in promoting science and ensuring continuity in the generations to come.
