Hi I'm
Dr Kate Lamont
- Position: Senior Lecturer
- Location: Highlands and Islands
-
Expertise:
- Agriculture, Crops and Soils
- Food and Drink
- Livestock and Fishing
- Natural Economy
- Policy
My current projects draw from experience as a qualitative social scientist in multi-disciplinary research in human health, veterinary medicine, and rural community development.
I am currently working on projects on the themes of mental health and wellbeing (with a focus on rural / agricultural workers), biosecurity in farming of livestock (with a focus on Johne’s Disease, PRRS and roundworm).
I sit on the social science ethics committee (as co-chair) and am interested in research methods which are acceptable to farmers, and which promote engagement in research (including co-production, co-design and peer research methods).
I am based in the Centre for Epidemiology and Planetary Health (CEPH) in Inverness where I head the Public health, Diseases Surveillance & Epidemiology team. Researchers at CEPH have an extensive range of expertise across disciplines and are delighted to collaborate in projects, whether based locally in the Highlands and Islands, across Scotland / UK, Europe and further afield. We are happy to provide supervision and support to PhD students.
