I am a Data Scientist at the Dairy Research and Innovation Centre of the SRUC, based at the Barony campus. I started my academic life as a large animal veterinarian in early 2000s when I spent most of my time working in dairy farms on herd health and reproductive management. Nearly a decade later finishing my PhD, inspired by bioinformatics and Big Data, I transitioned from a wet lab scientist to a computational one. I worked as a Research Fellow at Royal Veterinary College (between 2013-2018) and a core scientist at the Roslin Institute (between 2018-2023) where I contributed to multiple Ruminants’ improved breeding studies (GplusE, VarGoats, OvineFAANG and CTLGH). Recently, I have been involved in development of digital infrastructure and research software used in the biomedical, livestock and AgriTech systems. I am currently working on the Digital Dairy Chain project, a UK Research and Innovation funded initiative for South and West of Scotland and North Cumbria covering UK dairy sector stakeholders and more than 700 dairy farms.
