As an independent research-based service, each member of our expert team has extensive experience at the cutting edge of the UK potato industry. We have a broad knowledge base, connected to wider support and resources from across SRUC, there are few queries we cannot answer.

Unlike some advisory services, our team are active in applied research – from agronomy field trials to plant pathology diagnostics. Each year, we run a large field trials programme across Scotland, covering a broad range of subjects; late blight control at our dedicated site near Ayr; novel methods of PCN management in Angus; IPM strategies for aphid/virus in Aberdeenshire; and many more.

We have access to laboratory facilities and offer an expanding range of diagnostic tests. With a specialism in plant pathology, we regularly assist corporate members with novel product development. This hands-on approach to R&D means that when we explain technical data, we’ve often been involved in generating it.
